About the Lancashire 11 Plus

Lancashire keeps a number of grammar schools spread across the county, each running its own admissions rather than a single shared consortium test. The Lancaster schools and Clitheroe Royal are among the best known.

Because arrangements are school-by-school, families usually pick schools by commute and register with each individually. Most use GL Assessment-style papers, so preparation transfers well between them.

Lancashire 11+ — common questions

Is there one Lancashire-wide test?

No — Lancashire's grammar schools run their own admissions tests. There isn't a single county consortium result, so you register with each school individually.

Do the schools use GL Assessment?

Most use GL Assessment-style papers, which is why general GL practice prepares children well. Confirm each school's format on its admissions page.

Can out-of-county children apply?

Yes — registration isn't restricted by county. Distance from the school is a significant oversubscription factor when places are offered.

When are the tests sat?

Most are sat in September of Year 6, with registration in the summer of Year 5. Dates vary by school, so check each one.
